Denmark’s Ulrik Linnemann will step up to Supercar full time this year, racing a Volkswagen Polo in the FIA European Rallycross Championship.

Linnemann has been a regular front-runner in the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Super1600 in recent years, driving a Peugeot 208. He has finished in the top five overall on seven consecutive occasions, just missing out on the title in 2015 and 2016.

Last week the Danish driver reveled the ex-Marklund Motorsport Polo that his Linnemann Motorsport team will run this season. The car has previously been raced by former World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz and former Formula 1 driver Scott Speed. “Supercar is the off road world’s equivalent to Formula 1 and it will be a tough battle this year, but I’m more than ready to take up this challenge,” he said. Linnemann tested three different Supercars before deciding on the Polo for his 2018 campaign. “The dream of racing in Supercar properly is finally coming true,” he continued. Linnemann will race in the opening round of the Belgian Rallycross Championship to test his new car in racing conditions before heading to Barcelona for the first of five FIA European Rallycross Championship rounds.
