HANSEN FAMILY TO COMPETE IN 10 HOURS OF MAGNY-COURS
Swedish brothers Timmy and Kevin Hansen, who both race Peugeot 208 WRX Supercars in the FIA World Rallycross Championship for Team Peugeot-Hansen, will compete in the ‘10 hours of Magny-Cours’ endurance race this weekend in France, driving a Peugeot 208 Cup car and joined by father and Team Peugeot-Hansen team principal, Kenneth Hansen.
The 10-hour endurance race will be the first ever time that 14 time FIA European Rallycross Champion Kenneth Hansen has joined his sons at the wheel in competition, as the trio switch from rallycross to circuit racing for the event.
A maximum of 71 teams will compete in the race, which takes place in the summer break in the World Rallycross calendar between the World RX of Sweden (June 30 – July 2) and the World RX of Canada (August 5 – 6). “Our aim for the weekend is just to have a lot of fun,” said 2016 FIA Rookie of the Year, Kevin Hansen. “The drivers we’re racing against know the cars very well, so we’re not really aiming for the podium. It’s great for Dad to drive again and we really want him to enjoy it. We will just try to go flat out and see how far it can take us. The car is very, very different from the Peugeot 208 WRX with about 1/5 of the power, but it will be good to get this experience and to bring it to rallycross in the upcoming events - everything you drive makes you a better driver. This will be my first full experience of a full-size circuit racing track, so it will be really cool.”
Timmy Hansen began his motorsport career in circuit racing before switching to rallycross in 2013. “I'm really looking forward to the three of us sharing a car, we’ve never done anything like this before. My aim for the weekend is to just enjoy racing and have a lot of fun together,” he said. “I definitely feel like I’m 100% a rallycross driver now, but of course I haven't forgotten where I come from. I'm looking forward to going back to racing on tarmac again.”
