Norway’s Petter Solberg set fastest time in free practice and Q1 at the seventh round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Trois-Rivieres in Canada.

Solberg made the best start in the fourth race of Q1 to lead Team Peugeot-Hansen’s Timmy Hansen and Sebastien Loeb throughout to win the race and set the fastest time. Behind, Loeb and Hansen swapped places on lap three and set eighth and tenth times.

Second in Q1 was Russia’s Timur Timerzyanov, the World RX Team Austria driver leading Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud through their race, double 2016 winner Bakkerud ending up with third overall time. Ken Block also had a strong run in the second Ford Focus RS RX and is fifth, the Hoonigan Racing Division pair split by Volkswagen RX Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson.

Finland’s Toomas Heikkinen finished just behind Bakkerud in the second race of the day and sixth, but his EKS team mate and championship leader Mattias Ekstrom is 12th after picking up a puncture at the start of lap two while leading the first race of the weekend. Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss was slowed by engine problems on the final lap of his race and was 16th.
